Janet Shoemaker MSW, LCSW
After graduating from University of Bridgeport in 1974, I received my Master’s from University of Connecticut School of Social Work in 1978. While working at a progressive psychiatric hospital, I was fortunate to receive extensive training in the treatment of alcoholism and addiction, as well as marital and family therapy, from leaders in the field.
In 1983 I opened my private practice in individual, couples, family, and group therapy treating adults and adolescents. My expertise includes CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), stress management, life coaching, and practical problem solving.
A core of my practice is helping individuals reach their full potential. So often our self-doubts and assumptions about what is or is not possible hold us back from living our best life. Transitions are special times where we are challenged to know ourselves more authentically. Having support and guidance can enrich your experience.
Many of my clients are high achieving people who feel something is missing. I enjoy helping individuals develop strategies for dealing with change with enthusiasm and confidence.
